Judezmo on the Brain?

I'm listening to the Orioles-Athletics game via the Internet and the announcer on WBAL just announced an upcoming "Latino Night" at Camden Yards. But I heard "Ladino night" at first and it took me a minute to realize that the Orioles are not in fact honoring the Judeo-Spanish vernacular of Ottoman Jewry.

I love it!!! Judezmo on the Brain? Judezmo means "Judaism" and is the language that was spoken by the Jewish people of Spain before the inquisition. I guess Ladino came with a mixture of words from Turkey and and other countries they settled in after all Jews were expelled from Spain in 1492. Latino and Ladino aren't far from being the same thing. Whenever we hear Ladino, it sounds just like Latino. And the word Ladino comes with many different meanings that have no connection to the Jewish language (Webster's New Twentieth Century Dictionary - Copyright 1983). That is why I prefer to call the language of the Sephardim "Judezmo".
